Metro Global Solution Center (MGSC) is internal solution partner for METRO, a €30 Billion international wholesaler with operations in 30 countries through 630 stores & a team of 93,000 people globally. Metro operates in a further 10 countries with its Food Service Distribution (FSD) business and it is thus active in a total of 31 countries.

MGSC, location wise is present in Pune (India), Düsseldorf (Germany) and Szczecin (Poland). We provide HR, Finance, IT & Business operations support to 31 countries, speak 24+ languages and process over 18,000 transactions a day. We are setting tomorrow’s standards for customer focus, digital solutions, and sustainable business models. For over 10 years, we have been providing services and solutions from our two locations in Pune and Szczecin. Key Responsibilities:

(A) Leadership and Management:

•  Lead and manage a team of data scientists, AI specialists, data engineers & BI developers
• Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment
• Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to team members
• Orchestrate C-Level initiatives and make sure all strategic initiatives are aligned and coordinated
• Regularly reviews progress and performance expectations with leadership teams across the organization, providing expectations, performance planning, feedback, training & development, and performance discussions.
• Plan and execute country roll out and implementation of strategic initiatives
• Mentors, Coaches, and trains employees at various levels throughout the company.
• Lead by example in New-Ways-of-Working in line with Metro guiding principles

(B) Strategic Planning:

• Develop and execute a comprehensive data and AI strategy aligned with the company’s objectives
• Identify opportunities for leveraging data and AI to drive business value
• Define and implement a strategic roadmap for the CoE, aligning with the organization's goals and objectives to maximize the impact of data and AI
• Establish a Center of Excellence (CoE) for Data and AI to drive best practices, foster innovation, and ensure the highest standards of quality across all data and AI initiatives
• Collaborate with senior leadership to integrate data and AI initiatives into the overall business strategy  
• Collaborate with Leadership at global Metro AG sites, conduct workshops to identify critical to business problems and convert them into projects

(C) Project Management

• End to end accountability from concept design of a business transformation (Data and AI Projects) to implementation
• Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget
• Manage stakeholder expectations and ensure effective communication throughout the project lifecycle

(D) Technical Expertise

• Stay current with the latest advancements in data science and AI technologies
• Provide technical guidance and support to the team
• Evaluate and implement new tools, technologies, and methodologies to enhance data and AI capabilities

(E) Data Governance and Compliance

• Establish and enforce data governance policies and best practices
• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards
  • Promote data quality and integrity across the organization

1. Experience:

• 14+ years of experience in data science, artificial intelligence, or related fields
• Proven experience in managing and leading data and AI teams
• Demonstrated success in delivering complex data and AI projects

2. Technical Skills:

•  Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL
• Experience with AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar
• Strong understanding of data warehousing, ETL processes, and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark)
• Strong understanding of cloud platform and org level implementation expertise

3. Soft Skills:

• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment

4. Educational Qualification

• Minimum Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related field.
•  Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline is preferred
