Senior Data Engineer

Metro Global Solution Center (MGSC) is internal solution partner for METRO, a €29.8 Billion international wholesaler with operations in 30 countries through 630 stores & a team of 91,000 people globally. Metro operates in a further 10 countries with its Food Service Distribution (FSD) business and it is thus active in a total of 34 countries.

MGSC, location wise is present in Pune (India), Düsseldorf (Germany) and Szczecin (Poland). We provide HR, Finance, IT & Business operations support to 30 countries, speak 24+ languages and process over 18,000 transactions a day. Key Responsibilities/Job Description:

• Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines and ETL processes via DBT.
• Collaborate with data engineer and analysts to understand data needs and deliver high-quality data solutions, by bridging the gap between analyst, engineers and business stakeholders.
• Work closely with stakeholders, understand business requirement
• Implement and optimize data storage solutions, ensuring data is easily accessible and secure.
• Develop and maintain data models and schemas to support analytics and reporting.
• Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline performance and reliability.
• Ensure data quality and integrity through rigorous testing and validation.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies in data engineering and analytics.

Hard Skills:

• Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases (i.e., MySQL, PostgreSQL).
• Strong programming skills in languages such as Python.
• Knowledge of data warehousing solutions (BigQuery preferred).
• Familiarity with ETL tools and frameworks (e.g., Apache Airflow, Talend).
• Understanding of data modeling and schema design.
• Experience with cloud platforms (GCP preferred).
• Knowledge of data visualization tools (Tableau preferred).

1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.
2. 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering
3. Ability to manage data engineering projects, including planning, scheduling, and resource allocation to meet deadlines and objectives
4. Ability to translate business needs into technical specifications.
5. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
7. Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and methodologies.
8. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
